Black (Friday) Sheep

Maybe a lot of them shop for the deals, but I think most of them just do it because they think they are supposed to.

Not me.

I never shop on Black Friday, and I never will. I don't enjoy going to the mall on a slow day. I don't understand why someone would fight those crowds just to save a few dollars. Are the deals really THAT great? I don't think so. I've never heard of any Black Friday deal that I couldn't live without.

Is it worth the stress of searching for 20 minutes for a parking space, only to find one and then have someone come from the other direction and steal it from you? Is it worth arriving at your favorite store only to find that hundreds of mall zombies got there before you, and the item you wanted is gone?

Is it worth trampling someone to death?

These deranged Walmart shoppers thought so.

In another article I read about the same incident, it said that even after hearing that someone had been badly injured, people ignored the store employees' requests to stop shopping and move to the exit. Some people were still entering the store, hurrying right past the dead guy.

That's the mentality of Black Friday shoppers.

No thank you. I won't join the shopping sheeples.

In fact, I'll be shopping online again this year. :)

I was mortified that this happened so close to where I live. At Thanksgiving dinner we were all talking to one guest about going to one of these sales for a television he wanted. I'm really glad he did not.

It's not the mentality of all Black Friday shoppers. That's not fair. I've done Balck Friday with my mother and sister for YEARS. It's our tradition. We leave the kids with the dads, one of the only times that happens all year, and go have fun. If you go knowing you are going to park in the back of the parking lot, it's not stressful. If we get a deal, we get it. If we don't, we don't. We go knowing it's going to be packed so it doesn't bother us. We have fun and some of it is funny. No, trampling someone to death is not my mentality nor that of most shoppers. There are animals in any group anywhere. It was a horrible tragedy and anyone who participated should be severely punished but the fact that I enjoy shopping on Black Friday does not make me a mindless sheep nor a murderer.

Michelle Malkin blogged about the same Black Friday story. In that blog post, she linked to an article about the incident, and warned everyone to stay home, saying, "People are crazy."

Does anyone think she meant that all people are crazy?

I'm pretty sure she didn't.

Just as I didn't mean that every single Black Friday shopper is a "mindless sheep", much less a murderer!

I shop online too. Can't handle the crowds! It's not worth the few dollars I might save. :D
